RIPPING THRASH #25/HELL AND DAMNATION #12
Steve took his time but eventually a new issue of Ripping Thrash landed, and it brought with it a surprise in the resurrection of the old favourite Hell and Damnation - let's just hope tit won't be another six years before #13 completed.
I've been reading both these zines I first got into punk and that both zines rather focus on the not-so-obvious bands often from the not-so-hyped countries really helped open up my eyes to the whole international world of hardcore. [Krogh - June 29, 2009]
M:40 Industrilandskap 7"
(Halvfabrikat)
When I've reviewed M:40 releases in the past I've had to go back and read what I've said about their earlier stuff, and also take out an older release and listen to it to compare and see how they've developed. For some reason this band has needed a somewhat long period over several releases to fully grab my attention and remain in memory, but with... [Krogh - June 28, 2009]
CROW/SEE YOU IN HELL split 7"
(Phobia/Insane Society)
Japanese Crow has been going for some time now and I know I'm not the only one to think so when I claim that their later releases, from the "Bloody Tear" LP and forward has held their very best material. Other than the characteristic vocals of Crow that's an instantly giveaway... [Krogh - June 24, 2009]
LEBAKKO Sunday Morning Coming Down 7"
(Kanavakaupungin)
Ever since I first got into Finnish hardcore and punk pretty much all the bands I've listened to have been playing one version or another of their patented classic raw and intense style, mainly because that's the sound I've come to love and seek out. But every once in a while I get exposed to a Finnish punk band that doesn't necessarily sound like this... [Krogh - June 22, 2009]

Excerpts from the scene, a.k.a. "the Blog":

All Punks Are Bastards?
Posted June 24, 2009 at 17:43 | Category: News

About three months ago Snutjävel released their fifth and best 7" yet. It included their own version of the track "Punkrocker", now entitled "Punksvin" ("Punk bastard"), which originally was done by Teddybears Sthlm (or Caesar's Palace, I'm not sure) in 2000 and have been done at least seven times since then, by a very varied number of bands. The last time was in 2006 when Teddybears did the song together with Iggy Pop on their "Soft Machine" album.

But now, three years later Snutjävel decided to dig up the corpse and once again breathe life into it through a CD-single, again with help from Teddybears in the shape of singer Patrik Arve. Also helping out are Chips K from Sator, Micke from Asta Kask, and Henke from The Liptones.
You'll either love it or hate it, but I won't be surprised if this track turns up again somewhere soon.

Russia did it
Posted June 22, 2009 at 18:55 | Category: News

I got a package from Russia a while ago, including one very nicely packaged CD-R from The Minc. "What Have You Made?" is the bands first demo and on it they offer 10 tracks of raw d-beat where they lay down a Discharge inspired foundation and add a couple of layers of heavy riffs, topping it off with raw barking vocals. As the finale they even cover "Never again" originally by aforementioned band. A good cover version, but the favourite track is "Think about what will happen to us" with its powerful opening.
The demo comes packed in a fold-out "envelope" styled sleeve and it's accompanied by a 12-page booklet with nice cut-n-paste artwork and all the lyrics in Russian.

The Minc demo was released by the label My Riot Inward, which also is the name of the zine that too was included in the package. Now, I don't speak Russian so I can't really comment on the quality of the content, but the pages are filled with interviews with Russian grinders Zorka, Danish devastators Nuclear Death Terror, and a band I think is called Bo Becb Ronoc, plus some reviews, columns, comics… It looks good at least, so if you speak the language it should be worth tracking down.

Kvoteringen posted a new song, "Död åt kannibalerna, on their MySpace site. It's taken from their upcoming LP "Samhällets förrädare" on Feral Ward. The LP is expected to be released early/mid 2009 - which should be right about now hopefully.

Japanese foreplay and cold water
Posted May 18, 2009 at 20:10 | Category: News

Any fan of doom, grind and death metal and aren't afraid for bands that doesn't sound all that traditional will have a field day here. Not only have Power It Up released a 4-track split MCD between Eisenvater and Japanische Kampfhörspiele, the two bands also have new releases out of their own on Unudeux.

"IV" by Eisenvater includes 10 tracks of… what should I call it - progressive technical doom? It's slow, it has its "mushroom-induced" excursions, and it's quite spastic from time to time. Just under 50 minutes so they have time to explore the genre on this CD.

While the 3 tracks from Japanische Kampfhörspiele on the split are sort of comparable to the Eisenvater description above, only slightly faster, they are on their "Luxusvernichtung" increasing the speed considerably and manage to cram 54 tracks onto this 19 minute CD. Actually the total running time is 38 minutes, but that's because they've added all the tracks together as the 55th track "Complete album". Twitchy grindcore with one growler and one mental institute escapee.
