LEBAKKO Sunday Morning Coming Down 7"
(Kanavakaupungin)
Ever since I first got into Finnish hardcore and punk pretty much all the bands I've listened to have been playing one version or another of their patented classic raw and intense style, mainly because that's the sound I've come to love and seek out. But every once in a while I get exposed to a Finnish punk band that doesn't necessarily sound like this, and as with all music I've liked some and disliked others.
This time it's Lebakko that delivers a somewhat different style to what I'm used to when it comes to our neighbours to the east, even though there are traces of the more raw hardcore here and there. Especially so in the track "Ole Hyvä Nyt" which also is the only track sung in their native language, and therefore has an extra advantage in creating this resemblance. Anyway, musically this brings an equal amount of straight up punk rock and speedy and catchy late 70's/early 80's US punk to mind, with a result that lands somewhere in between fast melodic American punk and the classic Finnish rough style, with a plodding bass and sharp up-tempo riffs. These five tracks are delivered in a fast, melodic and chaotic manner, with a handful of infectious shout-a-long moments where you're invited to join in alongside the rest of the band.
The whole approach of Lebakko sends a message of obnoxious and snotty youngsters out there to have fun and give the finger to society. A great 7" that catches on instantly with its memorable riffs and punk attitude. [Krogh - June 22, 2009]

ADRENICIDE Kill CD
Endless Brutality of Men Records

A site for self development for the post modern hippie discusses the concept of when “enough is enough”: “Enough can describe quantity or quality, depending on the subject or object”. Adrenicide released “Kill” last year as their fourth album in three years, and to top it off, the released yet another full length last year. To put it bluntly, on this release they clearly excel in quantity, and fail miserably in terms of quality.

VON BØØM Punkrockterrorists CD
F.D.A. Rekotz

I was pretty impressed with the material Von Bøøm presented on their split with Motorbreath and any fears of a band that returns after two decades and completely ruin any heritage was soon washed away. What this means is that I approach this CD in a different manner as I already know they can deliver, so this time I expect quality instead of just hope they won’t loose their dignity...

ASSASSINATORS/D.S.B. split 7”
Alerta Antifascista/Halo of Flies Records

At first look this might seem as an odd pairing of bands, and I agree. I still think it’s somewhat strange, but that doesn’t stop it from being two good bands for the price of one so it’s really a good deal.

Danish Assassinators continue to deliver the melodic punk they’ve proven to be very good at in the past.

TERRORSTAT/TWISTED SYSTEM split CD
Endless Brutality of Men

Eighteen tracks in thirty-six minutes and a Swedish - American crustcore team-up with two bands that I think would have benefited from doing separate releases.

When a bands’ style is described as raw, rampant crustcore with a couple of heavy mid-tempo breakdowns it could just as well be a way of tip-toeing around the fact that they don’t have so much to offer as it could mean...
